The Power of Listening

One of the most difficult traits For human beings is to listen .

listening is not about staying silent and nodding

listening is an undermined trait, that Any human being always need to develop.

But it’s not about having like notebook and listening actively and taking notes .

Listening requires a huge amount of humbleness, what if the other person is saying something real, what if I am just ego centric and I can’t accept different opinions.

In the Bible there was a story of a king “Rehoboam” , whom his people kept asking him to ease their burdens , he didn’t listen , his wise elders also asked but to show some kindness to his people.

Yet, he listened to his arrogant friends and as a result his kingdom was spilt in two .

Another story of Napoleon invading Russia , with a power of 600,000 men , he didn’t listen to all opinions warned him about invasion in Russia’s winter .

he didn’t listen , only 10% of his men survived .

In engineering / leadership, if you are new leader , or experienced one with many years of experience , check whom you are listening to , are they wise men ? Are they arrogant ? Are they skilled ? Or they just keep talking and talking endlessly without real results . Ask yourself am I listening , am I humble enough to know if I am wrong or not , may be someone else had a better idea 💡 , am I listening to people collectively or I am inclined to subset ?

All these questions are important as Listening is very crucial , and whom you are listening to is way more important
